Overview

The Rupin Pass Trek is one of the most spectacular and dramatic high-altitude treks in the Indian Himalayas, offering a journey filled with constant change in landscapes, terrain, and experiences. Starting and ending from Shimla, this trek is known for its raw beauty, adventurous trails, and the feeling of crossing from one world into another.

From the very first day, the trail introduces you to remote Himalayan life as you pass through traditional villages like Jiskun and the famous hanging village of Jakha, where houses are built dramatically along steep mountain slopes. As you move ahead, the scenery transforms rapidly—from dense pine forests and riverside trails to wide alpine meadows and high-altitude camps.

One of the most iconic highlights of this trek is the Rupin Waterfall, a massive three-stage waterfall that becomes the centerpiece of the journey. Camping near this waterfall is an unforgettable experience, surrounded by towering cliffs and snow patches.

The real adventure begins as you approach the higher camps. The terrain becomes more rugged, with snowfields, glacier crossings, and steep ascents testing your endurance. The summit day is the most thrilling part of the trek, where you climb towards the Rupin Pass (15,350 ft) through snow slopes and narrow ridges. Standing at the top, you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of snow-covered peaks and deep valleys stretching endlessly.

After crossing the pass, the landscape changes completely as you descend into the beautiful Sangla Valley in Himachal Pradesh. The lush greenery, river views, and peaceful surroundings provide a perfect ending to this intense yet rewarding journey.

This trek is not just about reaching a summit—it is about experiencing the Himalayas in their most raw, diverse, and powerful form.
